Sri Lankan Land Snails

Sri Lanka have very High Land Snail diversity .246 land snail species record in Sri Lanka.Among above species 218 land snail species endemic to sri Lanka.Godwanan relativist are one of the significant component in sri lanka land snail diversity i.e. Acavus phoneix, Acavus hemastomata

Small number of species distributed all three major climatic zones.such as cryptozona bristrialis, Acavus phoneix,Beddomia trifaciata. In present 18 exotic Gastropod species found in Sri Lanka.Fortunately still exotic species are record in cultivated/modified lands. Most of the native land snail species restrict to the forest.forest fragmentation, selective logging, habitat loss are major threats to Sri Lankan land snails.
